A SPECIAL HOME IS REQUIRED FOR ‘HURRICANE HILDA’ XENA.
My Name Is… Xena
I Am… 19 Months – DOB 11th September 2019
Can I be rehomed with other dogs? No
Can I be rehomed with cats? No
Can I be rehomed with children? Adult Only Home
I am looking for… A foster or forever home
Poor Xena has had at least two litters in her young life, she was abandoned and left in the pound after her most recent litter. She has quite a large under-carriage left to show for what she has been through. Because she is from the pound, we don’t know a great deal about her history. She doesn’t seem to have any life experience or have had any training prior to arriving with us.
Xena is a whirlwind of a dog, full of beans and energy! She is currently in kennels and is desperately looking for a foster/forever home where she can thrive in a home environment.
She hasn’t had any training prior to arriving and SSR and she is looking for a home who can put in the time and patience with her. She is such an intelligent girl and will respond very well to clear structure and routine.
Xena is full of all the exuberance and joy of a puppy in a strong, adult body, so needs someone who can give her boundaries. She is very bright and focused on people and was responding to basic training within minutes. Xena will need her energy channelling but she wants your attention, she has fun with her toys and responds to treats. For someone with the energy to keep up with her, she will be rewarding to train.
Xena is currently struggling in kennels and cannot relax. She has been in an emergency foster home over the course of a weekend and we found that she did seem to be calmer being in a home environment and being able to spend more time with people.
On a weekend break from the kennels she was a joyful house guest, though had a couple of small accidents that may have been down to excitement. In the house Xena likes to know where you are and is a typical loving staffie, wanting to give kisses and be close to you. She delighted in shredding her toys but worked out, without prompting, that returning the Kong led to refills – she is so clever and bright! Her destruction of toys is due to her anxiety and not really knowing how to behave. The team at SSR have speculated whether or not she has even lived in a home before.
Xena is best playing lower energy games such as puzzle games or snuffle mats. Higher energy games such as football can get her overexcited and as a result she doesn’t listen and gets bit carried away. She is just a little stressed out girl looking for a very special home.
She travels well in the car. In both the car and in the home, she loves to look out of windows and watch the world go by.
Xena will be a lively, loving member of the family with people who have the experience and patience for this gorgeous, adult pup.
MY TEMPERAMENT WITH OTHER DOGS
Xena is still under assessments, but does appear to walk politely past other dogs whilst in the pound.

Help us find Xena a home!
Do you have a home for Xena?
We are looking for foster families and adoptive families. We do ask foster homes to be within an hour’s drive of Bournemouth as the dogs in foster use our local vets and foster homes will be required to bring the foster dog back to us for any medical treatments.
We rehome to adoptive families within a 2 hour driving radius of Bournemouth. A home check and a vet check is required, with a £200 adoption fee, which contributes partially to kennel fees, vaccinations, microchipping, spay/neutering, flea/worming treatment and other veterinary costs. This adoption fee will contribute to the care of all our dogs.
We have a thorough rehoming programme to prepare you and your dog for each other. We also offer help and support for you both in the future. Learn about responsible ownership or contact us if you have any questions.
If you are considering fostering or permanently rehoming a dog, then please print off and complete one of the forms below:
Please note: We only rehome within a 2 hour driving radius of the Bournemouth area and do not place dogs in homes with children under the age of 6.
