Rio Needs a Home

About Rio

My Name Is… Rio

I Am…  9 Years Old – DOB 5th February 2012

Can I be rehomed with other dogs? No

Can I be rehomed with cats? No

Can I be rehomed with children? Over 12 Years

I Am Looking For… A foster or forever home

Rio has been a well loved dog but due to unforseen circumstance he is now looking for a new home.

Rio has the most lovely temperament and once settled is a happy boy who wants to be the centre of his new family’s world in terms of being included in everything (as opposed to being left alone or behind).
Rio loves his walks and will play and fetch a ball for as long as you are able.  He will leave the ball for you to pick up and throw again.  He does enjoy tug toys too.
Rio is fed in the morning and early evening a mix of dry and wet food.

He will sleep beside the bed on several blankets with a pillow or cushion and arrange them to his needs!  Sometimes he will take himself downstairs and snooze on the sofa instead.  He will stand at the door before bedtime to ask to go out to the toilet.

Rio does not like being left on his own and seeks human company at all times.  He startles easily by noise or fast movements and will attack the hoover and lawnmower.  He would benefit from a quiet and calm environment.  He loves snuggling up on the sofa in the evening with a human companion, might ask for a little play and will then snooze contentedly.
He would love a home where someone is around most of the time.

Rio can open doors with a handle that open outwards so please be aware of this by locking any doors that would leave him at risk to getting into or out of places.

Rio walks well on lead but can sometimes be strong when he decides he wants to change direction.  He responds to basic commands and being super intelligent is very quick to learn.  He also responds well to hand signals and he will sit at the kerbside most of the time.

Rio is a happy boy, with a lovely nature and just needs time to relax, play and be given love, time and attention by his new owners with a few reinforced rules.   He is happy with male and female adults and needs an owner who can spend time with him, for him.

Rio will walk politely past other dogs but assessments are continuing.

Pending assessments, I am looking for:

  • A foster or forever home
  • A pet free home
  • A home where children are over 12 years
  • A quieter household

Help us find Rio a home!

Do you have a home for Rio?

We are looking for foster families and adoptive families. We do ask foster homes to be within an hour’s drive of Bournemouth as the dogs in foster use our local vets and foster homes will be required to bring the foster dog back to us for any medical treatments.

We rehome to adoptive families within a 2 hour driving radius of Bournemouth. A home check and a vet check is required, with a £200 adoption fee, which contributes partially to kennel fees, vaccinations, microchipping, spay/neutering, flea/worming treatment and other veterinary costs. This adoption fee will contribute to the care of all our dogs.

We have a thorough rehoming programme to prepare you and your dog for each other. We also offer help and support for you both in the future. Learn about responsible ownership or contact us if you have any questions.

If you are considering fostering or permanently rehoming a dog, then please print off and complete one of the forms below:

Please note: We only rehome within a 2 hour driving radius of the Bournemouth area and do not place dogs in homes with children under the age of 6.
